MUMBAI: Two members of Dawood gang have been detained by United Arab Emirates police in Dubai following a crackdown on the activities of the syndicate, police sources said on Thursday.

Arif Bhaijan, brother-in-law of Dawood's lieutenant Chhota Shakeel, and Qayoom were detained after the recent killing of alleged police informer and drug seizure accused Amjad Khan in broad daylight outside a court in Mumbai.

Bhaijan was an alleged link between Amjad and Dawood gang after the former switched sides from Chhota Rajan to Dawood, police said.

After the death of Amjad, Indian authorities alerted the Interpol which in turn informed UAE police to look for the Dawood Ibrahim gang members who were in touch with Amjad.

Accordingly, UAE police managed to have Qayoom and Bhaijan in their fold and the duo were being questioned, the sources said.

The Dawood Ibrahim gang has kept its activities at the minimum in Dubai in the last few years after the Don left the Gulf to settle in a nearby country, more so after India signed an extradition treaty with UAE.

In the last three years, a few Dawood Ibrahim gang members have been deported to India. Among them are Dawood's brother Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood's aide Anil Parab and former key associate Ejaz Pathan.
