Sensex at record high of 13,186.89 pts

The Sensex closed at an all-time-high of 13,186.89 points on the back of strong rally in Reliance Industries, Tata Steel and other heavyweight stocks.

MUMBAI: The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Monday closed at an all-time-high of 13,186.89 points on the back of strong rally in Reliance Industries, Tata Steel and other heavyweight stocks that saw sustained buying by funds.

The 30-share index, which rose by over 39 points on Friday, rose further by 56.10 points at 13,186.89 points after touching an all time intra-day-high of 13,206.87 points.

Similarly, the wide-based Nifty index on the National Stock Exchange gained 3.90 points at 3,809.25 points. It moved between 3,822.40 and 3,798.25 points during the session.

The index bellwether, Reliance Industries stocks remained at the centre of brisk activity largely on account of company's strong fundamentals and crossed Rs 1,300 mark to hit a record high of Rs 1,315.90 before settling Rs 19.15 up at Rs 1,306.05.

Other prominent gainers were Tata Steel, HDFC Ltd, Hindustan Lever, ACC, Gujarat Ambuja Cement, Grasim, Cipla, Ranbaxy, ITC, Larsen and Toubro, Reliance Energy and NTPC.
