SRIPERUMBUDUR (TN): The Tamil Nadu government is in the process of developing ‘land banks’ for industries at Irungattukottai, Oragadam, Ennore and many other parts of the state, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said on Saturday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Singapore-based electronics manufacturing services provider Flextronics Manufacturing facility here, he said the state government would not be found wanting in any aspect relating to the sustained development of the state.

Karunanidhi said the state was creating an ecosystem that would attract investments from across the globe and thereby create employment and economic prosperity for the people.

“Seeing this trend of international and national investments flowing into the state, I am confident that this area will develop as a major hub for electronic hardware," he said.

The Flextronics facility was inaugurated today by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the presence of UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Union IT and Communications Minister Dayanidhi Maran said the setting up of the facility and the other companies’ facilities at Sriperumbudur was fulfilling his late father's dream.

Maran said the Nokia facility was manufacturing one million handsets per week on an average and had rolled out its 20th million handset earlier on Saturday, which was presented by the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi to a couple of employees of the Finnish Telecom major.

He also said that Samsung was considering setting up their facility in the country.
