RANCHI: Central Bureau of Investigation Superintendent of Police RC Choudhury, in charge of the probe into the multi-crore fodder scam, has sought voluntary retirement citing "personal problems".

"I submitted a letter requesting voluntary retirement to my superior yesterday," said Choudhury, whose decision came on the day he was relieved to join the special crime branch in Delhi after getting a transfer order last month.

Sources in the CBI said there is a direction of the Ranchi High Court bench monitoring the fodder scam which states that no officer investigating the Rs 950 crore scandal should be transferred without its permission.

Choudhury replied in the negative when asked whether his transfer had the high court's nod but denied that it was the reason for his decision.

"Nothing but personal problems have forced me to seek VRS," he said.

Choudhury has been overseeing the probe since 2001 and had seen the conviction of over 100 people accused in the case.
