Virgin to introduce longest Airbus plane on India-London route

The new A-340-600 would have 45 seats in the upper class, 38 in premier economy and 225 in the economy class.

NEW DELHI: Premier British carrier Virgin Atlantic would operate the longest plane Airbus A-340-600 on its India-London sector from Tuesday.

The aircraft would have an additional capacity of 53 seats, an airline spokesperson said.

The British airline has been operating A-340-300s, which had a seat capacity of 255. The new A-340-600 would have 45 seats in the upper class, 38 in premier economy and 225 in the economy class, she said.

The 247 feet long aircraft is longer than any other commercial plane currently in operation.

"Bringing the new aircraft into India demonstrates our commitment to our Indian passengers. The A 340-600 offers a great flying experience", Virgin's Country Manager Joe Thompson said.

"With 30 per cent more seats on board compared to our current aircraft and return fares starting at Rs 20,000, even more customers will get the chance to experience Virgin Atlantic," he added.
