VALENCIA: Spain's Hector Faubel won the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix to snatch third place in the 125cc world championship on Sunday.

Faubel leapfrogged fellow Aprilia rider Mattia Pasini in the standings to finish behind Mika Kallio and world champion Alvaro Bautista in the final rankings.

Kallio crossed the line in second after edging out Spain's Sergio Gadea in a drag race for the chequered flag, while Bautista, who wrapped up the world championship in Australia with three races to spare, finished fourth.

Faubel then stepped up the pace in the final stages of the race to pull away from the rest of the field and claim his second victory of the season, while Pasini finished back in ninth place.
