Voter ID cards for all by 2008: CEC

CHENNAI: The issuance of electors’ photo identity cards across the country is expected to be completed by the end of 2008, Chief Election Commissioner V Gopalaswami said on Sunday.

When asked about AIADMK chief Jayalalitha's allegation that the Election Commission had acted in favour of the ruling DMK in a recent assembly by-election, he said "an appropriate" reply had been given by state Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta.
