NEW DELHI: Several hundreds of burger buns, vegetables and cooking material were destroyed in a fire that broke out in a storeroom in a McDonalds outlet at Connaught Place here on Saturday morning.

Four fire tenders were sent to the fast food outlet opposite Shivaji Stadium bus station after a police patrol van received a call of smoke billowing out of the restaurant at about 10:30 am.

Firefighters had a tough time identifying the spot of the blaze as the building did not have a proper approach way, with a takeaway counter built in what was supposed to be a backyard, a New Delhi Municipal Corporation official said.

"Unauthorised constructions in the vicinity of the building were an impediment in firefighting operations," a fire brigade official said.

The blaze was put out at about 1 pm, fire brigade officials said.
