A woman cancer patient belonging to Jain community died on Thursday after fasting for about a fortnight in order to attain "moksha" (salvation).

JAIPUR: A woman cancer patient belonging to Jain community died on Thursday after fasting for about a fortnight in order to attain "moksha" (salvation).
Vimla Devi, 61, was following the ritual, known as 'santhara' since September 14 at her house here, a spokesman of Srijain Shwetambar Terapanthi Samaj said.
Vimla is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter.
She was later cremated here amid tight police security as hundreds of men and women gathered to pay homage.
