BEIJING: A divorced Chinese man was ordered by a court to give his ex-wife access to their dog after she sued him for barring her from seeing the pet, state media reported on Monday.

The childless couple from the southwestern city of Guilin were both very fond of the dog and treated it "as their own child," China Daily's website reported.

But after they got divorced a year ago, the husband, surnamed Chen, banned her from seeing the pet, it said.

A local court ruled in favour of the wife and granted her the right to visit the dog once a month, the report said, without mentioning when the ruling was made.
