Detained Indians return from Amsterdam

The 12 Indians detained in Amsterdam following suspicious behaviour on a US airliner, arrived in Mumbai on the wee hours of Saturday.

MUMBAI: Commotion reigned at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport as the 12 passengers detained for alleged suspicious behaviour onboard a US airliner and later released arrived from Amsterdam in the wee hours on Saturday.

The waiting media jostled to get the reactions of the passengers even as their anxious relatives attempted to garland them.

One of the relatives Abdul Qadir Kolsawala (70) had to be whisked of after he complained of chest pain following embracing his son Ayub, who was one of the 12 detainees.

"He is a heart patient and had undergone a bypass surgery recently. The doctors had warned him against embracing a person," his elder son Saleem said.

Meanwhile, the other detainees were rushed off by relatives in waiting cars.

Anxious relatives of the passengers had started arriving at the terminal 2-A of the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport in Mumbai since Friday. The aircraft which was scheduled to arrive at 10:35 pm was delayed by around four hours.

Abdul Aziz, father-in-law of Byculla-based garment exporter Mohammad Salman Yousuf said,  Salman had striked good business deals at a traders fair in Port-of-Spain and he was detained while coming back to India via Amsterdam."

He added that Salman and his friends were frequent travellers due to which they would not have been wearing seat belts.

Faizan, son of Navi Mumbai based businessman Farooq Hashim, who was one among the twelve passengers said his three sisters and mother were happy that his father was returning home safely.
