Washim ex-MLA stabbed to death

AKOLA: Former BJP MLA Yadavrao Shikhre was stabbed to death at his residence in Washim district, 40 kms from here, police said on Friday.

Shikhre, 53, was alone at home on Thursday night when some unidentified persons forced their way in and stabbed him with a sharp weapon. Despite serious injuries, Shikhre called out to his neighbours, who rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed, police said.

The deceased had served as a BJP MLA from Washim district from 1999-2004 and was in the teaching profession. Senior police officers have rushed to the spot with a dog squad, police said.

The police stated that a revolver was found from the spot, which belonged to Shikhre, adding that it was, however, not used during the attack. BJP and Shiv Sena leaders have gathered at his residence and also at the hospital, party sources said.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Meanwhile, exit points from Washim have been sealed and a hunt is on for the killers, the police added.
