Sarabjit Singh has alleged that he has been denied treatment for his eyesight problem in Kotlakhpat Rai Jail near in Lahore.
AMRITSAR: Sarabjit Singh, facing death sentence in Pakistan, has alleged that he is being denied treatment for his eyesight problem in Kotlakhpat Rai Jail near in Lahore, his sister said on Sunday.
"Necessary medical treatment for my ailing eyes is being denied by the Jail Authority in Pakistan", Sarabjit told his Sister Dalbir Kaur in a letter purportedly written from Pakistan's prison.
The letter was received last evening by Dalbir Kaur who is a resident of border village Bikhiwind, nearly 40 kilometres from Amritsar.
Sarabjit said his eyesight is "failing" by the day and that he was unable to view objects clearly.
He said he had informed the Jail superintendent of the jail of his eyesight problem but the jail authority turned a deaf ear and allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if health-related problems were highlighted time and again.
The letter charged Sarabjit hardly got two square meals and was lodged in a dingy and hygienic cell.
Sarabjit has been ordered to be sent to the gallows for his alleged involvement in a bomb blast in Lahore in 1990.
Dalbir Kaur said she has sent a copy of her brother's letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking an appointment in connection with efforts to organize the treatment of Sarabjit and his early release from Pakistan prison.
Pakistan police alleges Sarabjit was an Indian spy and entered Pakistan through Punjab border.
Earlier in his petitions to the courts, including the Supreme Court in Pakistan, Sarabjit said he had inadvertently crossed the border under the influence of liquor and later caught by Pakistani police and wrongly implicated.
Dalbir Kaur and the family are praying for clemency for Sarabjit by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.
