The entire country prayed for Prince’s safety, but aren’t such mishaps waiting to happen in a city where an open manhole is commonplace?
There are open manholes everywhere
The pit was 60 feet deep and only nine inches wide. If the media had not covered this event so fervently, it wouldn't have gotten all the attention it did. However, the media went berserk. The CM of Haryana went a step further and announced a compensation of Rs2 lakh. There was other news of equal importance, which got buried.
There are so many open manholes in the country; this incident should awaken the authorities. Anupam Kumar. Worli
It’s a common sight
The media overplayed the incident. While I do not undermine the gravity of the situation, I also don't think that this matter needed so much attention and media coverage. It's a common sight to see people falling in open manholes, gutters and pits in India.
The whole episode shouldn't have been exaggerated like this. I understand that people who helped Prince get out of that pit should be rewarded, but such a huge compensation for the boy? It is absurd. Narinder Bhasin. Sion
Media to the rescue
The attention that the incident got was responsible for his rescue. Prayers were offered across the country for his well-being. Let's give the media its due for once. Prince deserved the compensation.
Open manholes across the country have become a menace and I hope this incident serves as a wake-up call to the concerned authorities. Himanshu Lodha. Vasai
Prince vs Israel strike over Lebanon
The media was so immersed in covering the 'Prince rescue operation' that Israel's attack on Lebanon was sidelined. Channels overplayed the news to increase TRPs. The compensation offered to Prince and his family was just a ploy to evade public ire for the government’s negligence. Navraj Sharma. Thane
Careless authorities caught on tube
Prince's ordeal kept the entire nation glued to their TV screens. It was good that media covered the entire rescue operation, but it left other important issues on the backburner. The only thing good that came out if this incident was Prince and the carelessness of the concerned authorities. Chitra Iyer. Santacruz
Book the contractor
When media can cover a star’s wedding for a whole day, why not this? There were so many people from across the country, who prayed for Prince.
Had the incident not been brought to light, it could have ended tragically. It was very kind of the Chief Minister of Haryana to offer compensation. The contractor, who dug that pit and did not bother to cover it, should be booked for negligence. Deblina Mondal. Gorai
Media attention required, not compensation
The boy's ordeal was enough to melt anybody's heart. The attention given by the media was not uncalled for. But the compensation wasn't required as his preliminary medical expenses are being borne by the government. And he or his family did not really suffer from any loss of life or property. All in all, authorities in the country are callous about people's lives. Suresh Kochattil. Dadar
7/11 victims weren’t compensated as much
The entire episode was blown out of proportion. It required the attention of media, but certainly not over two days. Prince has become a hero overnight, courtesy, the electronic media.
I hope kids don't get influenced by this and try to do the same to get publicity. Those injured in the 7/11 blasts weren't given that kind of compensation that this boy got. It's a huge sum, and I'm sure the Chief Minister of Haryana must have realised after announcing it. Chirag Mehta. Vashi
Compensation cover up for negligence
After the bomb blast the media did not have any story to cover and keep people glued to their TV sets. Every news channel that covered Prince's story did so not to help him, but to get people hooked to their channel. The compensation given to Prince and his family was nothing but covering up the negligence of the government. Sobit Ghosh. Malad
Was such intensive coverage necessary?
It's time that certain codes of conduct are levied on the media. It wasn't necessary for news channels to focus so much on this particular issue. However, I request the government to take steps to avoid such incidents in future. Prerana Joshi. Kandivali
