Malaysian princess stabbed to death by son

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian princess was stabbed to death and her partially paralysed husband seriously injured when their son, under the influence of drugs, attacked them.

The son also died of an apparent drug overdose a few hours’ later, local media reports said on Tuesday.

Sixty four-year-old princess Kamariah Sultan Abu Bakar, sister of the Sultan of Pahang, was slashed with a hunting knife by her son Rizal Shahzan, 21, at their home in Kuantan province after she tried to stop him from attacking her semi-paralysed husband.

The princess' husband Ismail Tunku Sulaiman, 74, suffered wounds on the abdomen, the reports said. Rizal later, died from an apparent overdose at a hospital.

According to neighbours of the princess, Rizal, in a deranged state, grabbed a screwdriver to stab his father when the princess tried to stop him. This led to the son grabbing the hunting knife and slashing her neck before attacking his father, the New Straits Times said.

The neighbours, who were alerted by the maid, tied up Rizal to a tree and phoned police. He died a few hours later at the hospital of an apparent drug overdose, the paper said. The paper said that Rizal had a history of drug abuse.
