Two militants, two civilians, a jawan and a Congress leader were killed in separate incidents.

SRINAGAR: Army on Sunday killed two dreaded militants of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and recovered 250 kilograms of explosives in two separate militancy-related incidents across Kashmir. Elsewhere, shot a Congress leader dead from close range and opened fire at an army patrol killing a jawan.

Himant Kumar Lohia, deputy inspector general of police, south Kashmir range, said following a tip off, a joint team of 62-Rashtriya Rifles and police launched an operation in Landura village. “A gun battle ensued between the militants and security forces in which two top ultras of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen were killed. They were identified as Major Gul and Saddam.

In a separate incident, militants killed a Congress leader Fatheh Mohammad at Larkipora when they fired at him from close range.

In another incident, an army jawan was killed and three others injured when militants opened fire on an army patrol in Gurez sector of Baramulla district in the wee hours on Sunday, a police spokesman said. He said the militants were attempting to sneak into the valley when they were intercepted by the army patrol sparking off a gunbattle.

Two persons were killed when an explosive device went off at the shop of a scrap dealer.
