NEW DELHI: As Internet becomes an integral part of many lives, the country's apex varsity body is offering an online course in journalism with a thrust on e-scripting and digitised editing.

The course prepared by the Consortium of Education and Communication (CEC), an inter university wing of UGC for electronic media, starts from August 7 and would mainly orient students on scripting television programmes, including writing news, analysis and content for advertisement and allied areas.

"Presently, there is a great demand for writers for electronic media, particularly television. The students will get training by experts whose lectures would be made available through our website," CEC Director Prof G D Sharma said.

Doubts, if any, can be clarified through the Internet. CEC has prepared 75 hours of lecture programme on the subject which will be aired through Vyas Channel, apart from the Internet.

"They will learn on how to write and what to focus on while writing various contents," he said, adding that training in the areas would continue for three months at least.

The second part of the course is digital editing, where the students will learn to edit video programmes. It is a technical area and the multimedia centres of CEC would help students understand the concept.

There are 17 such centres across the country located in different universities, where students can get themselves admitted, he said.
