MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday stayed arrest warrants issued by a local court against Bollywood actresses Shilpa Shetty and Reema Sen in connection with the publication of their 'obscene' pictures in a Tamil newspaper.

Admitting a petition filed by the actresses, Justice R Raghupathy also stayed the proceedings against them in the chief judicial magistrate's court, which had on June 20 issued the arrest warrants.

Raghupathy posted the petition for further hearing on July 26.  In their petitions, the actresses sought the quashing of the case pending against them in the lower court.

The case was filed by city-based advocate Dakshninamoorthy against the actresses and Murugan, editor of 'Tamil Murasu', for publishing obscene pictures.
