NEW DELHI: Doctors supporting sacked AIIMS Director Dr P Venugopal on Wednesday went on a strike to protest his removal from the post affecting services at the hospital.

"We have declared a strike. Resident doctors, students, scientists and faculty members have all gone on strike to protest the decision," said Dr Vinod Patra, a representative of the AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association.

Immediately after hearing the news of Venugopal's sacking, doctors and students supporting him gathered outside the office of Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, who is also president of AIIMS, in the hospital and removed his nameplate.

They also removed the nameplate of Minister's OSD D S Murthy from his office in the hospital premises.

They demanded immediate reinstatement of Venugopal and a due apology from the health minister for his actions.
