The 30-share sensitive index surged mainly due to heavy buying in index-related metal stocks such as Tata Steel, Indalco, Nalco, Ispat Industries.

MUMBAI: The BSE Sensex, after an initial surge, slid in afternoon trade by almost 85 points and is currently trading at 10,316.66 points.
The volatility is attributed to slow buying and aggressive selling by the
investors.
Auto, IT and metals have declined in the intra-noon trade on Monday.
The major gainers on Monday are HDFC bank, up by 2.47 per cent, TISCO, up by 2.59 per cent, Ranbaxy, up by 1.59 per cent, Dr Reddy's Lab, up by 1.85 per cent and Cipla, which was up by 1.66 per cent.
The major losers are Tata Motors, which was down by 2.78 per cent,
Satyam Computers, down by 2.60 per cent, Reliance Energy, down by 3.13 per cent, and HDFC, which was down by 2.05 per cent.
