MUMBAI: Cases of leptospirosis have started being reported from the city even before the full blast of the monsoon. The disease had caused 119 deaths last year.

On Sunday, Sion hospital sent blood samples from three patients, suspected to be suffering from the disease, for testing. On June 16, a Worli resident was admitted to Dadar’s Vaze hospital with leptospirosis. The patient has since recovered and been discharged.

“Leptospirosis symptoms are fever, headache, chills, muscle ache, vomiting, yellow skin, red eyes, abdominal pain and diarrhoea,” said gastroenterologist Dr Devendra Desai. The disease can be fatal if not treated in time.
