Forget the long queues to the counter. You can now get admission forms to first year junior college (FYJC) of some colleges from students, teachers and non-teaching staff appointed by the management. A few city colleges have come up with this innovative ‘volunteer scheme’ to ease the admission rush.
But there is a caution clause. The person taking on this responsibility will have to sign an undertaking that the admission kit will not be sold in black.
The Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has fixed the price of admission forms for all colleges at Rs10 and their college prospectus at Rs40. “Several students’ organisations have approached us showing keen interest in distributing the forms and the prospectus and making them available at students’ doorsteps. This will help those living far away from the college which they would apply for. It will also minimise the chaos the colleges see during admissions,” said Naresh Chandra, principal of Birla College, Kalyan.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena, (BVS) a student union affiliated to the Shiv Sena, has decided to take up the job of distributing FYJC forms of various city colleges. Abhijeet Panse, general secretary of BVS, said, “We have requested colleges to assign us the job. If permitted, the BVS followers will start visiting different colleges to collect the admission forms and making them available at party offices.”
Other colleges like St Xavier’s and Bedekar College have decided to go online with their admission kits. “To avoid long queues, we have put up admission forms on our website. This will save students travelling expense,” said Frazer Mascarenhas, principal of St Xavier’s College.
