NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi’s reluctance to shoulder organisational responsibility within the party is reportedly holding up the much awaited reshuffle within the Congress party.

The MP from Amethi reportedly continues to hold the view that his learning process is still on and that he needs to put in more work in the field before shouldering any kind of responsibility.

Senior Congress leaders now believe that it is unlikely that the party leadership will go in for a major reshuffle in the organisation. “It would have made sense if Rahul Gandhi was being drafted in. Now that he is reluctant, there is no hurry to undertake the exercise,” says a party general secretary.

Rahul Gandhi has been under pressure to shoulder some organisational responsibility. The demand was raised with gusto at the AICC Plenary in January, but Rahul poured cold water on it by making it clear that he was not ready yet. However, the issue has once again gained momentum after the manner in which Rahul managed his mother’s re-election campaign from Rae Bareli.

During the campaign, in one of his interactions with the media, he even hinted that he would be prepared to shoulder whatever responsibility he was entrusted with.

However, since then little has been heard on the subject from either Rahul Gandhi or the Congress President herself. Sources close to the Congress leadership are of the view that he has still not shed his reluctance as a result of which all talk of a reshuffle has come to a naught. These leaders however, do not rule out the possibility of Sonia Gandhi deciding to fill the vacancy created by Ambika Soni joining the government.
