NEW DELHI: A Delhi police sub-inspector has been dismissed from service for allegedly raping a 23-year-old Mumbai girl in the early hours of Thursday. The victim was living in northwest Delhi’s Rohini area.

KB Jha, a sub-inspector with the elite Crime Branch, was arrested and dismissed from service with immediate effect. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Tejinder Luthra said Article 311-B of the Constitution empowers him to dismiss the delinquent officer without conducting a departmental inquiry.

Sonali (name changed), a bar dancer hailing from Mumbai, was raped at her residence in Rohini where she had been living for the past two months with a married man, a transporter named Rajkumar. She met Rajkumar in Mumbai in March this year and accompanied him to Delhi.

The sub-inspector got wind of their relationship and started blackmailing them. He often extorted money from them, said a police officer. Early on Thursday morning, at about 3.30 am, Jha arrived at their place in a drunken state. He asked Rajkumar to get food for him. Then he raped Sonali when Rajkumar was gone.

The victim was examined at Bhim Rao Ambedkar hospital and the rape confirmed.
