Two Nigerians, Hammid Abimbola Disu and Sola Rotimi Dada, were deported to Lagos on Wednesday after being charged with posing threat to national security and allegedly acting in collusion with international drug cartels. The charges against them range from donning fake names to enter India, overstaying in the country and dealing in high-quality contraband cocaine.

Joint Commissioner of Police and ATS chief K P Raghuvanshi said, “The two have been deported as they are considered to be a threat to national security. They had entered the country on false identities and are also suspect in drug peddling-related cases.” Their expulsion—after being picked up from separate places by the ATS officers on Monday—was triggered following the slapping of the three charges.

Bearing passport numbers A 3019724 and C 473205, they were sent on flight no. ET 611 of the Ethiopian Airlines. Their respective visas too got expired, ATS officers said.

The deportation assumes significance in the light of a spate of terror-related arrests from across the state and also huge drug hauls from the city.  The biggest haul—200 kg cocaine valued at about Rs500 crore in international market from the JNPT—had spurred the ATS (which controls the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to launch their biggest-ever anti-drugs offensive in recent times.

ATS officials said Disu and Dada were part of a global drugs chain. “We have proof that the duo was part of a major drug cartel having bases in the city and abroad. Which is why we had sought their deportation as their stay in the country would have compromised national security,” said Sunil Deshmukh, senior ATS officer.
