3 Iranians held for carrying cocaine

The police crackdown on drug peddlers, especially foreigners, has intensified.

Three Iranians were arrested at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on Tuesday for allegedly carrying cocaine worth Rs2.5 crore in international market. With the arrest, the number of foreigners arrested in drug-related cases had risen to nine in the last 10 days, the police said.

Senior police inspector CK Chavan, Sahar police station, told DNA, “Iraz Seyhollal Davoodnady, 40, Mohammed Razak Rajballi Ghanbary, 34, and Azizullah Habibullah Khazery, 34, were booked under the Narcotics Drug & Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act, 1985. The trio was remanded in police custody till June 30 by the metropolitan magistrate court at Andheri on Wednesday.”

Chavan said the three came to India on June 16 on a tourist visa. On Tuesday night, they arrived at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport to board Iran Airways to return to Tehran. The police got a tip-off  saying that the trio were carrying drugs weighing 2.5 kg.  Accordingly, the police rounded them up and during the checking their baggage, the police found drug concealed in the baggage.
