CPM steers clear of Bachchan row

LUCKNOW: The CPM, which is extending crucial outside support to the UPA governemnt at the Centre, on Saturday chose to stay away from the controversy over Income Tax notices to Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachhan.

"We are of the view that in politics policies should be opposed and not the individuals," CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here in an informal chat after a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Refusing to elaborate, Karat said he would speak on the matter in Delhi and not in Lucknow.
