MUMBAI: Students who took the government’s Common Entrance Test (CET) can now choose from 115 private unaided engineering colleges as well. They can also use the centralised admission process (CAP) of the Directorate of Technical Education.

The DTE has laid down guidelines to begin admissions to these colleges, which opted out of the private CET. The colleges will conduct the first and second rounds of admissions through the CAP.

The proposal was moved during a meeting between the DTE and college managements on Thursday. The admissions begin at the month-end.

DTE Director NB Pasalkar said: “Private unaided engineering colleges have accepted the proposed distribution of seats where 65% will be filled by the government, 20% through the management quota, and the remaining will be allocated to students clearing the All-India Engineering Entrance Examination.”

It was also decided that if the fee committee fails to revise the fee structure of these colleges by June-end, the old system will continue. But students will have to undertake to pay the revised fees later.

Meanwhile, the decision of the 115 colleges to go with the DTE means the choices of private CET students are down from 136 to 21 colleges. And admission processes for them remain undecided.
