Party stops treating family like outcast ever since Pramod's wife pleaded with Atal and Advani.

Almost 24 hours before Rahul Mahajan was granted bail in the drug abuse case and released from Tihar jail, his mother Rekha had called upon former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani in Delhi.

Sources in the BJP said that the widow of late Pramod Mahajan might have sought the help of the 'Big Two' after the GenNext party leaders decided to distance themselves from the Mahajans following the drug scandal at 7, Safdarjung Road bungalow.

BJP leaders close to the Mahajans said, “Rekha had broken into tears several times since her son landed himself in trouble in the drug case. After Pramod's death, she had decided to stay for a while with her married daughter Poonam and two-year-old grandson.”

Rekha's efforts to reach out to the top leadership of BJP were reinforced when the Mahajan siblings publicly acknowledged on Thursday the moral support provided by the party leadership.

BJP, too, seemed to have responded. It sent national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar to accompany Gopinath Munde on his visit to the city on Wednesday night—the first time Munde travelled with a top BJP functionary ever since that infamous drug party.

Pramod Mahajan's personal secretary Harish Sharma was the only one to accompany Munde, when he had gone to fetch Vivek Moitra's body from Apollo Hospital. It was alleged that several BJP leaders were actually avoiding being seen with the Mahajan-Munde family.
