GELSENKIRCHEN: Only one thing distracted delighted Argentina fans from their rampant team's superb 6-0 victory on Friday -- the wild antics of the great Diego Maradona watching in the stands at the Arena AufSchalke.

When the first two goals went in Maradona, who captained the team to victory at the 1986 World Cup, flung his arms in the air with joy shrieking ‘goal, goal’ -- his necklaces and golden crucifix bouncing on his chest.

By the time of the fifth and sixth goals in the demolition of the European side Maradona, clad in a blue and white striped national team shirt, was swirling another Argentina jersey high above his head in wild celebration.

Throughout the Group C game thousands of soccer-mad Argentina fans turned their backs to the action on the pitch to stare at their idol, chanting his name and taking photographs.

Maradona is in Germany to cheer on the team and has been surprising the players with unscheduled visits and pep talks.
