KATHMANDU: Nepal's government agreed on Friday to dissolve Parliament and set up an interim administration including Maoist rebels after a day of top-level peace talks in the capital, both sides said in a joint statement.

The Maoists agreed to join the interim government, to be formed within a month, rebel leader Prachanda announced here after his first face-to-face talks with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to resolve the decade-long armed conflict in the country.

"This is a historic decision and will move the country in a new direction," 58-year old Prachanda told a crowded press conference after the parleys that lasted for over 10 hours.
