PATNA: Much to the chagrin of Bihar State Women Commission (BSWC), singer Udit Narayan failed to appear before it for the fourth time in a row.

Narayan was to appear before the BSWC for presenting his case in backdrop of allegations made by a woman, Ranjana Jha, claiming to be the first wife of the singer. She had claimed that she had married Narayan in 1986. The play back singer had to spend some embarrassing moments when she staged a dharna outside a hotel room in Patna few weeks back.

BSWC chairperson Manju Prakash said that no new date had been fixed for appearance of the singer in person before the commission so far.

When asked whether the BSWC was adopting a lenient approach in view of Narayan being a celebrity, Prakash said that the singer was like any other ordinary person before the BSWC.

The counsel to the singer Mahashweta Chaterjee said that her client could not appear before the BSWC as he was indisposed. She said that the singer would appear in person before the commission on the next date fixed for the purpose. She maintained that it was not required for his client to appear in person before the BSWC under the prevailing situation.
