The sale and submission of Delhi University (DU) application forms came to an end on Thursday. The university saw a 30 per cent increase in the number of applicants for its undergraduate courses.
SK Vij, Dean of Students’ Welfare, said that DU sold almost 1,35,000 forms by Thursday evening. “B Com seems to be a favourite with students this year, though English also remains one of the most popular courses,” he told DNA.
The whopping increase means tougher competition for DU aspirants, many of whom flock to the Capital from all over north India. The university has 43,000 seats in over 70 colleges spread across the Capital. With phase one of the admissions race coming to an end, officials would now prepare the cut-off lists.
The first cut-off will be declared on June 26. Given the intense competition, the cut-off percentage is likely to go up by another couple of points. DU already has among the highest cut-offs of all universities in the country.
