Bush arrives in Iraq on surprise visit

BAGHDAD: United States President George W Bush is in Iraq, Iraqi state owned television said on Tuesday.
 
"US President George Bush arrives in Iraq," read the orange banner displayed by the public television station.
 
Bush had been expected to hold a video conference in the United States with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki on Tuesday as part of his consultations over future Iraq policy.
 
Bush is expected to be on the ground in Iraq for more than five hours and speak to US troops, the White House said.
 
Bush met al-Maliki, according to an AFP photographer.
 
Bush met with the prime minister as well as his new cabinet, specifically the key ministers of interior, defense and oil at the US embassy in Baghdad.   
 
Bush last visited Iraq in November 2004.
