PARIS: Rafael Nadal won the men's French Open crown with a 1-6 6-1 6-4 7-6 win over world number one Roger Federer in the final on Sunday.

The Spaniard extended his winning streak at Roland Garros to 14-0 by becoming the first man since Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten in 2001 to win back-to-back titles at the claycourt Grand Slam.

Federer was in a class of his own in the first set, breaking a nervous Nadal twice.

But Federer suddenly faded away and allowed the 20-year-old Spaniard to charge through the next two sets.

Nadal broke in the first game of the fourth set but Federer needed only one break point to level at 5-5, only for Nadal to win the tiebreak 7-4 and the match after three hours and two minutes.
