KOLKATA: Charges have been framed against Haldiram confectionary chain owner Prabhu Shankar Agarwal and four others in an attempt to murder case.
The charges were framed on Thursday by the chief metropolitan magistrate's court against Agarwal, Gopal Tiwari and the others for shooting at a youth when he was asleep in the Burrabazar area last year.
Agarwal had wanted to remove a tea stall blocking the entrance of a large confectionary shop he was about to open in the area, but the owner Satryanarayan refused to budge.
He then allegedly hired Tiwari to kill the tea stall owner. Tiwari, however, shot and injured Pramod, nephew of the owner in the early morning of March 30 last year.
Agarwal was arrested from the IGI Airport in New Delhi after arriving from the United Kingdom, where he had gone to open a branch of his confectionary chain, and was subsequently brought to Kolkata. He is on bail at present.
