Shibani Bathija's the 'write stuff' behind Bollywood's 'Fanaa' and 'KANK'.

It's not often that a newcomer to the film industry gets to work with two of the biggest production houses. But that's exactly what scriptwriter Shibani Bathija has gone and done. While the Yash Chopra production 'Fanaa' is already a hit, Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' (KANK) is all set for a July release.

"It was an amazing experience being a part of both films. For me, the biggest joy was being able to concentrate on the creative aspect without any interference," says the Bollywood debutant. About 'KANK', Shibani says, "It's about the complexities of love and relationships. I don't see it (the film) in an extra-marital or adulterous light."

So what was it like working with Karan Johar? "It was a complete joy to work with Karan – it's about the kind of humility he brings to his work. We share the same amount of meticulousness that goes into the entire process." According to her, "Karan is true to himself and the films he makes. And that is why people love his films."

Growing up in South Mumbai, says Shibani, "There was a running away from Hindi cinema but life's come a full circle for me," she laughs. It's Shibani's contention that when you write for cinema, you have to have lived life a bit and learnt a few lessons as well. "You have to understand people and that comes with maturity. In a way, I've come to it when I was ready."

She's currently working on the script of an English film. "It's not set in India and not even in this day and age," is all she's willing to divulge.
