Retired IPS officer shot dead in running train

A retired IPS officer was shot dead by assailants when he was travelling in an AC coach of the Rajendra Nagar-Lokmanya Tilak Superfast Express near Patna.

PATNA: A retired IPS officer was shot dead by armed assailants when he was travelling in an air-conditioned coach of the Rajendra Nagar-Lokmanya Tilak Superfast Express near Patna Junction here on Sunday with one of the alleged attackers being arrested.

Superintendent of Railway Police G P Sinha said the assailants fired a couple of shots as Anil Kumar Singh resisted their attempt to snatch his belongings soon after he had boarded the train at Rajendra Nagar terminal.

As the news spread, GRP personnel from Patna Junction, four kms from Rajendra Nagar terminal, rushed to the coach and took him to Patna Medical College and Hospital where he later died.

Singh had retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police. He was presently practising in the Patna High Court. Some of his belongings are also believed to have been taken away by the assailants.

One of the attackers was captured by GRP personnel, Sinha said. The train was allowed to resume onward journey after it was stopped for a few hours at Patna Junction.
