Cash, jewellery worth Rs 32 lakh looted from Sewri shop

MUMBAI: Seven armed dacoits barged into a jewellery shop in Sewri and decamped with jewellery and cash valued at Rs. 31.67 lakh on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the incident occurred at Mehta Jewellers, located on T J Road near Sewri Market, around 7.15 am on Thursday.

Owner Motilal Vardichand Mehta (44), who lives in the neighbourhood, opened the shop to wake up his son, who usually sleeps in the shop.

As soon as he pulled up the shutter, the dacoits surrounded him and took out revolvers and choppers and forced they way into the shop.

Within minutes, they collected ornaments weighing nearly three kg gold, eight kg silver and Rs 17,000 from the shop and fled from the scene.

Mehta went to the R A K Marg Police station and lodged a complaint. Police are investigating but so far there are no leads.
