MUMBAI: Western Railway locals terminating at Borivali could not return to Churchgate due to a signal failure at Borivali. This led to heavy bunching of trains between Jogeshwari and Borivali. Many passengers were left stranded at various stations.

WR officials said the signal failure was one of the problems after the completion of major work undertaken between Borivali and Vasai Road. There was a possibility of such teething problems even on Tuesday as the system could take sometime to function normally.

Earlier in the day, commuters had a harried time. Those who had hoped that normalcy would return after three days of erratic train schedule woke up to worse when they found that the situation hadn’t changed one bit on Monday.

People suffered as trains continued to run much behind schedule. The alternative lifeline, Western Express, too, was choked with traffic snarls.

Ashutosh Khanna, a PR professional working at Nariman Point, not only missed an important office meeting, but also had to bear the brunt of his boss’ anger. Graydon Gomes of Borivali was a bit more lucky. Because of the woeful traffic conditions he, too, reached office late, but his bosses at Saatchi and Saatchi were more considerate.
