A 15-year-old Indian chess prodigy, Arjun Vishnuvardhan, became the youngest national champion in US, beating IM Edward Formanek.

NEW DELHI: A 15-year-old Indian chess prodigy, Arjun Vishnuvardhan, became the youngest national champion in America, beating International Master Edward Formanek in the US National Game 60 Championship.

Arjun remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and scored 5.5 points out of a possible six in the six-round tournament.

The champion has now been invited to participate in the prestigious Las Vegas International Masters chess tournament from June 9, which will field 41 International Masters and Grandmasters from all over the World.

In addition, Arjun will be playing the Chicago Open from May 26 and US Junior Open in Texas, before the next European trip.

The Kerala boy is playing in the US and European Chess circuit by taking leave from his school.
