SC notice to AP Govt on Monsanto petition

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday today issued notices to the Andhra Pradesh Government and others on a petition filed by US biotech major Monsanto seeking a stay on the order of the MRTPC directing the company to fix a reasonable price for the sale of the Bt-cotton seeds to farmers.

Mahyco-Monsanto, the Indian arm of the company, has challenged the interim order of the MRTPC directing it not to charge trait value of Rs 900 for a packet of 450 gms of genetically modified Bt-cotton seeds and to fix a reasonable trait value as charged by its parent company (Monsanto) in China.
