Engineering and medical aspirants appearing for the Common Entrance Test (CET) on Sunday are an anxious lot.

Along with stiff competition this year, the students are also worried about the quota issues and mega blocks operating along the Western Railway. The state government has issued an advisory asking the students to leave their homes 2-3 hours earlier to reach their centres on time.

Compared to last year, more students are appearing for the exam this year. According to official figures, 1,57,530 students are slated to appear for the exam.

“I hope to perform well, although with more students competing, it will get tougher. I am also worried about the quota system that may be introduced,” said Megha Subramanium, a medical aspirant.

Ankur Choubey, another medical aspirant, said, “With cancellation of trains, I am worried whether I will be able to reach the centre on time. I have worked very hard and want to perform well.”

Similar sentiments were echoed by other students across the city. Karthik Iyer, an engineering aspirant from Borivali, said, “I am worried about the quota issue and whether I will be able to reach on time with the train schedules going haywire.”

Some are of the view that medical aspirants have more to worry than their engineering counterparts. “I have opted for engineering. So there is little tension. Here, we have more seats and less aspirants. However, it is exactly the opposite for medical seats,” said Kushal Chaturvedi.

Not just students, their parents too are worried. “I have seen my daughter toil hard. To ensure that she reaches on time, my husband and I will accompany her to the centre,” said Nishi Agarwal, mother of Richa Agarwal, a medical aspirant.
