ISLAMABAD: One of the most important Taliban leaders, Mullah Dadullah, has been captured in Afghanistan, media reports said quoting officials.
 
He was detained in the southern province of Kandahar and is being held by the coalition forces, BBC quoted high-ranking Afghan officials as saying.
 
The US-led coalition in Afghanistan has been pursuing Mullah Dadullah for more than four years.
 
The governor of Kandahar, Assadullah Khalid, confirmed the arrest of one of the Islamic militia's senior leaders but would not say who he was.
 
"We have captured a very important Taliban member but due to security reasons we cannot reveal his identity," Khalid told reporters.
 
The Taliban have not confirmed Mullah Dadullah's arrest.
 
Mullah Dadullah has been blamed for much of the recent violence in the southern province of Helmand where thousands of British troops are being deployed.
 
Mullah Dadullah has survived a number of attacks and lost one leg in battle.
 
He has a reputation for being one of the Taliban's most brutal commanders.
