NEW DELHI: Striking medical students and resident doctors on Thursday met senior BJP leader L K Advani and submitted a memorandum which included their main demand of a total rollback of the proposed extension of reservation by 27 per cent in elite educational institutions.

The meeting took place at the residence of Advani, who gave the representatives of the 'Youth for Equality' a 'patient hearing' and expressed his sympathies with their cause, students said.

The medicos apprised the Leader of Opposition about their views on the contentious reservation issue, which has triggered nationwide protests from medical students and junior doctors, paralysing health services in several places.

They also submitted a copy of the three-point memorandum to Advani which included their demand of a total rollback of the proposed quota-hike in elite educational institutions.

Their other demands are appointment of a judicial commission to review the existing reservation policy, its achievements, adverse effects, loopholes and drawbacks and a concrete statement by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue.
