Avudiayappan is new TN Speaker

CHENNAI: DMK leader R Avudiayappan is the new Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Assembly. His was the only nomination received by the Assembly secretariat when the nominations closed at 12 pm on Thursday.

He would be formerly declared elected as the Speaker by the pro-tem Speaker D Sudarsanam, when the house meets on Friday morning.

Avudiyappan's name was proposed by the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and seconded by Finance minister K Anbazhagan. V P Doraisamy would be his Deputy in the house. He was the only person to file papers for the Deputy Speaker post.

His name was proposed by Electricity Minister N Veerasamy and seconded by Local Administration Minister M K Stalin.
