MALAPPURAM: Owning moral responsibility for reverses in the recent Kerala State Assembly elections, four top Indian Union Muslims League leaders, including General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty, have tendered their resignations from their posts.

The letter of resignations were handed over to party supremo Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal at his residence here on Wednesday evening.

Others who submitted resignations were Treasurer E Ahamed (Union Minister of State for External Affairs) and Secretaries E T Mohammed Basheer and K Kutty Ahamed Kutty.

A decision on the resignation would be taken by the party State Working Committee, scheduled to meet here on May 22, party sources  said. Speculations were abound on the possibility of a change of guard in the wake of the worst ever electoral debacle of the party, which only won eight seats against 17 in the outgoing assembly.
