St Stephen’s College sold 1000 forms in the first two days

NEW DELHI: Delhi’s St Stephen’s College’s formidable reputation and popularity was reconfirmed yet again when nearly 1000 forms were sold in first two days as compared to 200 last year.

The admission rush begins in Delhi University by mid May with St Stephen’s being the first to start the process. However, this maddening rush to get forms in first two days has not been seen earlier.

As the counters opened on Monday, the serpentine queue refused to end. Some 400 forms were sold on first day. On Tuesday the queue got longer. “We have extended the timing by three hours to meet the rush,” said RN Prasad, the admission officer. While forms were sold only in the first half on Monday, it continued afternoon too on Tuesday. The authorities had no idea of what was causing this unusual rush. “Usually we sell forms till second week of June, so this rush is unwarranted,” Prasad said.

Anandita Tiwari was one of the applicants who had been standing in a long queue braving the scorching sun to get a form. “Well I heard about the great rush and came here to collect it so that I do not miss it,” she said.

The college authorities however, rubbish the assumption that forms might fall short. We sell some 15,000 forms every year and will make sure that there is no shortage, said the admission officer.

While only St Stephen’s has started selling the forms, others are expected to join soon. The centralised forms will be available by first week of June. Incidentally while these forms cost Re1, the Stephens’ form costs Rs50.

While most of the colleges accept centralised forms, some others including Stephen’s, accept only their own.
