MUMBAI: Five IAS officers holding the rank of secretary in various government departments on Monday met chief secretary DK Sankaran and demanded plum postings commensurate with their talent and service experience. On Tuesday, deputy collectors across Maharashtra will meet Sankaran to complain about the prevailing gender bias in the government while allocating portfolios.

The 30-minute meeting at Sankaran’s chambers at Mantralaya saw the women officers complaining about being sidelined during policy making.

Sankaran confirmed to DNA that women officers did meet him to discuss about some of their colleagues not getting the posting they deserve. “I assured them that I’ll look into the matter. Whether it is a man or a woman (officer) there will be no discrimination. At least in my tenure, there will be no injustice.”

The women officers who met the chief secretary were Chandra Iyengar (prisons and secretary, home department), Neela Satyanarayan (forest and environment), Sanjeevani Kutty (tourism and culture), Anna Dani (family welfare), Kavita Gupta (accounts and treasury, finance).

Iyengar refused to disclose the details of the meeting, but admitted that the matter pertaining to the women officers posting is pending before the chief secretary. But a senior officer in Mantralaya revealed that women officials have categorically laid down their wish list before the chief secretary.
