SRINAGAR: Conservative Kashmir is simmering with anger over the sex scandal allegedly involving some former ministers, top police and security force officials.

A furious mob on Friday destroyed the house of Sabina, the alleged kingpin of the sex scandal, and set her belongings on fire.

What triggered the mob was the recovery of pictures of some top politicians and uniform of security forces from Sabina's house. Sabina was arrested last week.

The racket was exposed after police seized a CD containing pornographic clips of a young girl. After her questioning, the girl named Sabina, several politicians and police officials who forced her into prostitution.

“We have lost trust on the people at helm. We have now decided to organise a seminar and invite the imams and presidents of mohollas. They will be asked to keep an eye on their localities. If they find any girl or boy involved in any immoral act, they should call their parents and try to nip the evil in the bud,” Zareef Ahmad Zareef, chairman of Valley Citizens Council, an apex body of intellectuals and respected citizens of Kashmir, told DNA.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Basharat Ahmad Dhar said the mob attacked the house and caused some damage but police immediately swung into action and prevented further damage.

He said the situation in Kashmir is by and large peaceful though minor processions and stone pelting incidents were reported from different areas. "Section 144 is already imposed in the Valley. We are monitoring the situation and it is right now under control," Dhar said.

The entire Valley observed a shutdown against the sex scandal. The Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) had given the call for bandh on Friday.

Thousands took out procession in different parts including Habba Kadal, Budshah Chowk, and Residency Road  and Nowhatta and raised slogans against the government. They were demanding action against the people involved in the sex scandal. The Dukhtaran-e-Milat or Daughters of Faith backed the strike call.
